Put your speed training to the test with F.A.S.T – Fighting Arts Speed Trainer
F.A.S.T is a great way to test and track your progress as you train to become a faster striker and kicker.
Simply place your device in a safe place near a heavy bag, focus mitt, or other striking practice pad. Or, have a training partner hold the device for you. Watch for the screen to change from red to green and strike as quickly as possible. Instantly you will see the time it took to execute the strike and F.A.S.T. will log the result. Stay in the ready because F.A.S.T will reset and repeat, giving you a green light at a random time so you can test as many times as you like.
Just enter the techniques you’re working on and F.A.S.T. will track and chart your progress for all of them. Always remember to work from the same distance to ensure you’re truly tracking your progress.
There are many factors that affect speed for martial artists. One of the most important is motor engram (AKA muscle memory) development. That’s where F.A.S.T. comes in. As we practice we become more efficient, we improve our body position, and everything involved in executing the technique efficiently and properly. Over time that process develops dedicated memories called motor engrams. Those motor engrams enable us to execute faster and faster. This app will enable you to see the results of your training.
Motor engrams are only one part of the speed equation for martial artists. As David Howell, the author of The Book of Speed for Martial Artists, says:
“Speed for martial artists is much more than just moving fast.”
F.A.S.T. uses your device’s microphone to listen for the impact of your strike or kick so avoid environments where other loud noises are occurring that may falsely trigger F.A.S.T.
